Development of the Alberta Energy Corridor

The region of north central Alberta is working to diversify its economy because of the uncertainties in the agricultural and forestry sectors. The region aims to market itself as the “Alberta Energy Corridor,” and to attract and develop industries that are integral to the oil sands supply chain as well as encourage manufacturing and research industries interested in alternative energy.

Activities for this part of the initiative include:

  • Developing an organization that will effectively support the Alberta Energy Corridor
  • Engaging a consultant to develop a background report and concept plan leading to a framework for land use and development
  • Developing a 3 year marketing plan, creating a brand and marketing materials, and participating in industry trade shows and international trade events
  • Researching future opportunities

Partners include: Community Futures Tawatinaw, County of Athabasca, Village of Boyle, Town of Athabasca, Northport Industrial Park Inc., Peper Logging, Northgate Industries, Al-Pac Forest Industries, A&B Oilfield Construction Ltd., Rural Alberta Development Fund, Millar Western Forest Products, Enbridge, and Athabasca University.
