Diversification of the Red Deer Region – Investment Attraction

This project aims to bring new foreign direct investment companies to the Red Deer Region. This proposal is based on a 2008 GAP analysis of foreign direct investment in the region that identified a couple of weaknesses in the region including a high dependence on oil and gas.

The goal of this project is to actively target and recruit companies from the US and Europe with specific characteristics. In particular, companies will be in the targeted sectors of agri-food, machinery, energy, tourism, and logistics and transportation. The companies will also be looking to expand, be complimentary to existing businesses, and will consider the Red Deer region an attractive investment destination.

Key activities in the project will include: actively target and recruit companies, create an Ambassador’s Circle to provide existing companies in the region with local marketing materials and to share business productivity/innovation information, ensure that the region is investment ready, work with foreign trade commissioners, and encourage the development and expansion of technology in the region to inspire businesses to improve.

Partners include: Community Futures Central Alberta, Red Deer Chamber of Commerce, the City of Red Deer, Red Deer College, and Red Deer County.
